A sponsored run in aid of a primary school’s playground saw hundreds of youngsters push themselves to their athletic limits.
All 420 pupils at Gospel Oak School in Mansfield Road, Gospel Oak, took part in the fun run over two days last week in the school’s playground.
The younger pupils ran about 1km while some Year 6 children covered impressive distances of up to 8.2km in just 40 minutes, giving teachers a run for their money.
While donations are still being counted up, last year’s event brought in £6,500. Allon Sylvain, 40, chair of the Gospel Oak School Association, said: “The kids love it.We try not to promote it, but there is a competitive element to it, they get really competitive and some kids really push themselves to the limit. We’re not sure how much we’ve raised yet, but if we raise as much as last year, we will be very pleased with it.”
The fun run is the brainchild of Year 6 pupil Ellie Sharp, 10, who came up with the idea about five years ago. Visit mydonate.bt.com/events/gosafunrun to donate.
