A team of Golders Green schoolgirls have been crowned champions of an inaugural cheerleading contest.
The Jets cheerleading team from King Alfred School, in North End Road, Golders Green, won the first ever London Dance and Cheer Academy League last Thursday.
They fended off competition from Channing School, in The Bank, Highgate, and South Hampstead High School, in Maresfield Gardens, Hampstead.
The contest was held at the UCS Active fitness club, in Frognal, Hampstead.
Ellie Boltman, 28, founder of London Dance and Cheer Academy, which teaches all three school teams, said: “It was the first time that they had been able to see each other perform and compete against each other. We don’t use pom-poms – it’s not the cheesy American stuff you might think. It’s all about teamwork.”
