Top judge Sir Brian Leveson has stepped down as chairman of a prestigious Hampstead school’s council after six years.

Sir Brian, of Hampstead Garden Suburb, left his role as leader of the council at University College School on Thursday at an annual prizegiving event, where Hampstead comedian Michael McIntyre was guest of honour.

He is one of several high-profile figures to have held the position at the Frognal public school, including former Lloyds banking chairman Sir Victor Blank, also of the Suburb.

His replacement will ensure the role maintains its eminent status, as the council has appointed Simon Lewis OBE, a former director of communications to the Queen and former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
