A headteacher has denied reports she has banned pupils at a girls’ school from having jabs because it causes them to be emotional.

It had been claimed that parents would have to take their daughters out of Hornsey School for Girls in Crouch End to get vaccinations, sparking fears that students could miss out on crucial jabs.

But headteacher Carol Jones insisted she has not banned inoculations from the secondary school in Inderwick Road.

She did admit that the school is considering providing the injections outside of normal hours to minimise disruption to lessons.

In a statement, she said: “Hornsey School for Girls has not banned any vaccinations, nor has it asked parents to seek vaccinations for their children out of school.

“The school is actively trying to find the best way of ensuring that the girls have access to these important vaccinations while minimising the impact on lesson time, especially in the run up to important examinations.”

Governors are expected to make a decision regarding jabs later this term.
