Primary school pupils have performed Romeo and Juliet to mark the end of a spring project about Shakespeare.
In a pioneering programme, now in its 12th year, all classes at Holy Trinity and St Silas School, in Hartland Road, Camden Town, use Shakespeare’s original language to adapt one of the Bard’s plays.
Pupils explore themes and take part in a weekly arts day to develop writing, art, music and drama inspired by the language.
This year, children in reception class through to Year 4 re-told sections of the play through dance, verse and song, while Years 5 and 6 performed an adaptation of the entire play.
Headteacher Lorraine Dolan described the production, performed on March 26 and 27, as “exceptional”.
