The Really Big Pants Theatre called on kids to take inspiration from their production of ‘Suddenly’ by writing a story - here is an extract from the winner, eight-year-old Tilly from Gospel Oak Primary School.

Harry and George, by eight-year-old Tilly from Gospel Oak School. Once there was a very rich family called the Richards. In that family there was a boy called Harry and a girl called George. Their mum and dad were called Henry and Georgina. The family had an enormous mansion in the countryside.

There were statues of each of them made out of pure gold and the eyes were made out of diamonds and rubies. You see they were so rich you could even smell the richness dripping off them. No one dared to go near them. If you got too close to them the Richards would get so angry it was like having a lion on top of you about to eat you.

One day Mr Richards decided to get rid of his spoilt children but Mrs Richards didn’t want to. They argued all night about the children. Harry and George didn’t want to leave their parents because they loved them and wanted to stay at home in the lovely and peaceful countryside. In the morning Harry and George’s mum had disappeared. As they sat down for breakfast Harry asked his dad “where is mum?” but Mr Richards didn’t reply he just kept humming a happy song.

Mr Richards then took Harry and George to the city in his white polished limousine. Both children did not know why they were being taken there. Dad hated the city, it was full of unhealthy food and the Richards were a very healthy family. The family had never dared to try chips or ice-cream.

When they got to the city, Mr Richards took them to a dark corner and tied them up. He then ran back to the limousine and drove away. The children struggled but just then Harry remembered that he had his penknife on him and started to cut the rope. When he had finished cutting the knot he freed George. When they had got out of the ropes they both went to look around the city.

When they had got to the end of the houses they found a little cottage made out of vegetables and fruit. Harry and George loved vegetables and fruit so they started to eat the house. They were in vegetable heaven!

Then suddenly the door of the cottage opened and out stepped a hairy old man with a beard. His eyebrows were so bushy they looked just like he had a hairy spider leg on his face. The old man said, “you rotten children what are you doing eating my house?” The children replied “sorry it’s just we like vegetables so much that we could not stop ourselves”. The old man offered for them to stay the night because their dad had left them.

In the morning Harry found himself in a cage. He started to shout for George. All that shouting woke George up so she went to see what was happening, but as she was desperately running around trying to find the key she woke the old man up. He came down the stairs and tied up George and threw her out into the garden with all the crows and spiders.

Harry and George had stayed in the old man’s house for 14 whole days. George was having a bittersweet time. She was having a good time because she got to eat all the vegetables in the garden and she was having a bad time because she kept getting pecked by all the crows and bitten by the spiders. In the house Harry was having an even worse time as he was not getting fed at all. He was hungry and tired.

One day the old man unravelled George and ordered her to cook food for him. Even though she was only nine years old she could cook a whole range of things. So every night for five days George had to cook for the old man. One night George saw the old man sitting in front of the fire with the key around his neck. George crept up behind him and then wham! She got the key from his neck and pushed him into the fire. His beard went up in flames and the rest of him burned into dust. Harry and George escaped and ran back to the mansion in the countryside.

Inside they found their mum tied up in a wardrobe in the dark. There was no sign of their dad so they unravelled their mum. When Harry and George had finished unravelling Mrs Richards she jumped out at them and gave them big hugs and kisses. She had missed them so much.

They were all very hungry so George made them all crunchy roast potatoes with peas and carrots. Mr Richards never came back to the countryside so Mrs Richards, George and Harry lived happily ever after.
