More than half of free school parents think their local council should step in if it is underperforming, a survey has revealed.
Some 60 per cent of parents of free school pupils in London said they would support council intervention to ensure high standards even though the schools are outside local authority control.
Mother-of-four Claire Craig, who is campaigning for a free school in West Hampstead, agreed that there should be “safety nets”.
The survey, commissioned by London Councils, also revealed that two-thirds of parents thought their council’s process of applying for a school place was “easy”, with 93pc getting their child into one of their top three choices of schools and 72pc offered their first choice.
NW6 School campaigner Dr Craig, of Fortune Green Road, Fortune Green, said: “I am hoping [the NW6 School] will be part of Camden Council’s admissions process because it is a good process.’’
