Designs of a major redevelopment proposed for a Camden secondary school have been released for the first time.
Plans to give Hampstead School in Westbere Road, Cricklewood, state-of-the-art new teaching and sports facilities were lodged with Camden Council last week.
The school’s subsiding 1960s teaching building will be demolished to make way for a modern teaching block with a red, yellow and black facade. It will house a dining hall, drama studio, music facilities, science laboratories, and a large assembly hall.
The school, which has about 1,300 pupils, will also be given a sports centre containing four courts and an activity studio, and two all-weather pitches.
A plaza will be created at the entrance to the new teaching block in addition to new play areas and sports courts.
A design and access statement on the online planning application states: “The school’s facilities need renewal. A number of the buildings are in a poor condition.”
The redevelopment is being funded by the government’s Education Funding Agency. It is not yet been revealed how much the works will cost.
