Eight Camden children were left without a secondary school after places were allocated last week.
The number of children who received a place at their first choice school dropped from 68 per cent to 63 pc this year.
Cabinet member for children, Cllr Angela Mason, said the fall was due to a large number of parents applying for the popular Camden School for Girls, in Camden Town, and UCL Academy, in Swiss Cottage.
She added that there was an increase in parents who live outside the borough applying for places.
The number of children who received a place at one of their top three choices of schools fell from 91 per cent to 89 per cent this year.
