Some of the best-known figures from the cricketing world gathered to pay tribute to a former Hampstead sports teacher who retired last year.
Sir Ian Botham, Mike Gatting, Mike Brearley, Clive Radley, and colourful Middlesex County Cricket Club stalwart John “Fingers” Fingleton, all attended a testimonial dinner at University College School, in Frognal, on Friday in honour of retired teacher Bill Jones.
Mr Jones knows the stars from his days playing for the club in his youth at Lord’s Cricket Ground in St John’s Wood. As one of the older players at the club then, the cricketing legends fondly remembered him as their “head boy”.
Organisers said it was an “emotional evening”.
