The Chief Rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis, joined a Holocaust survivor at a special Camden school assembly to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
Freda Wineman, who survived a number of Nazi concentration camps, including Auschwitz, shared her testimony with pupils at William Ellis School in Highgate Road, near Parliament Hill Fields, on Tuesday, the day before the official memorial day.
The school then heard from Chief Rabbi Mirvis, who spoke about the courage of those who risked their lives to save others during the Second World War.
They were joined by Holborn and St Pancras MP Kier Starmer.
Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis said: “Listening to Freda Wineman’s testimony, one cannot help but be seized by an overwhelming sense of responsibility to protect her legacy. The students of William Ellis School have accepted that responsibility.”
