A CONSULTATION on the introduction of banding for secondary school admissions will be launched in Camden next week.
The council is asking parents, governors, headteachers and neighbouring boroughs for their views on the admissions process and how places are allocated.
Banding would see all children applying for a place in Camden take a written test and then be put in bands.
A similar number of children from each band would be admitted to each of the community schools and the new UCL academy in a bid to create a balanced intake.
Schools boss Cllr Andrew Mennear said: "We would like to provide great-er reassurance about school choices."
At the moment admissions are based on distance criteria.

The consultation runs from September 3 until October 30 and the council will review the results on December 9 and decide if a formal consultation should take place.
If changes to admission criteria are approved the first pupils under the new rules will be admitted in September 2011.
