Hampstead Garden Suburb grammar school Henrietta Barnett is once again rated the best all-girls state school in the country in an annual league table published by The Sunday Times.

The selective Central Square school came second out of every state school in the country behind all-boys Queen Elizabeth’s School in Barnet, having also come second last year.

It joins a handful of Camden, Haringey, Barnet and Westminster schools ranked in the top 200 independent and state schools in England, according to tables published yesterday.

A statement on Henrietta Barnett School’s website said: “We are again the top state school for girls in these annual prestigious tables.

“Congratulations to our friendly rivals, QE Boys, who were top overall, but we beat them at GCSE… not that we are competitive or anything!”

Schools are listed in the Sunday Times Parent Power League Tables according to the percentage of A* to B grades achieved by pupils at A-level and percentage of A* and A grades at GCSE.

South Hampstead High School in Hampstead was the highest-ranking independent school in Camden, coming 29th in the country.

Highgte School in Highgate was not far behind as the best-performing independent in Haringey, ranking 38th in the country.

Other private schools in the top 200 included University College School (UCS) in Hampstead at 56th, Francis Holland School in Regent’s Park at 61st and Channing School in Highgate at 62nd.

The area’s state schools also performed well.

Camden School for Girls was the best-performing in Camden, ranking 94th in the country.

Meanwhile Fortismere School in Muswell Hill topped state schools in Haringey after being rated 145th best in England. It was also the only local non-selective comprehensive to make it into the top 200.
