An army of parents, teachers, students and members of Camden Council will be coming together at Talacre Gardens tomorrow (Tuesday) on Prince of Wales Road for the ‘big school assembly’, which starts at 5pm.

There will be the chance to listen to speeches from teachers and trade unions leaders, as well as the opportunity to find out more about how funding cuts could affect your children.

Camden schools are facing cuts of £18.1 million by 2019, which is equivalent to £952 less being spent on each child.

The assemblies are being held by the parent-led Fair Funding for All Schools campaign to bring the issue of school funding cuts to the attention of all parties and candidates campaigning for election in constituencies across the country.

Across Haringey on Friday there will be 4pm protests at Alexandra Palace (in front of the South Terrace), Chestnuts Park and Highgate Woods (in the field by the café).

Campaign co-founder Jo Yurky, who is a Haringey parent herself, said: “As a result of the brilliant campaigning by parents across the country, all parties now accept the need for more school funding. We’ve seen major concessions in the party manifestos but, sadly, not all of them go far enough.

“At the very least, we need pupil funding to be protected in real terms over the next five years. Anything that falls short of that is unacceptable.

“So parents will be using events like today to keep the pressure up and make our voices heard. We want fair and proper funding for all our schools.”
