Haringey Council has confirmed that 87 per cent of families got a place at their first preference school, three per cent more than in 2015.

In Camden, that number was 80 per cent.

All 2,837 Haringey residents who applied have been offered a place, and 2,473 were allocated a place at their first preference.

This is three per cent above the national London average of 84 per cent.

98 per cent received one of their six preferences, 96 per cent received one of their first three preferences.

Every Camden child has been offered a reception place for September this year, with 1,361 of the borough’s children being offered their first choice.

Councillor Angela Mason, cabinet member for children at Camden Council said: “This is excellent news for parents and their children, and the first time in recent years we have no local children without a school place.

“We worked closely with out schools to plan for an expected increase in primary school pupils and we’re now providing additional classes in a number of our schools to meet the needs of Camden’s children and families.”

In total over 2,000 places were awarded to children this year but Cllr Mason is concerned for the future. She said: “Worryingly, Government proposals to academies schools could make it much more difficult for council and schools to work successfully together in the future.”
