Students have achieved the school’s third best ever results at A-level and pre-university level, with 70per cent of exams graded at A*to A and 60 pupils achieving nothing below an A grade.

Success stories from the day included 4students who achieved the top grade D1 (the equivalent of double A* at A Level) in pre-university English and in French; a student who secured 3A*s, an A and, most impressively, an ‘S’ and a ‘1’ in STEP maths to confirm his place to study maths at Cambridge; a pupil heading directly to study art at Oxford University without a foundation course and all the medics for securing their places at medical school.

Headteacher Mark Beard said: “This cohort of students are the first guinea pigs of major educational reform in a generation. “That they have secured such a fine set of results involving new syllabuses in a linear mode is testament to their resilience and determination.

“It is wonderful to see the character traits they developed outside of the classroom be applied so successfully to their academic studies. Huge congratulations to them and their teachers.”
