A-level results day 2017: Oxbridge candidates successful as Channing School students go from strength to strength

The percentage of students securing A* grades increased by 30 per cent and all pupils at the Highgate school secured grades ranging between an A* and an E.

Staff were on hand to congratulate students, including those who applied for places to read medicine and veterinary science, all of whom were successful in securing their first choice of university. All five students with offers from Oxford University or Cambridge University, two to read music and three to study history, successfully achieved their grades.

Head girl Tabi Ashley-Norman, celebrating three A*s and an A, said: “I am so proud of my achievements and those of my fellow students. We’ve done incredibly well and it’s all thanks to the inspirational staff at Channing.”

Headmistress Barbara Elliott said: “I am delighted with our students’ success, which results from their hard work, exceptional teaching and an unrivalled pastoral support system.

“I know that Channing pupils go on to their chosen degree courses exceptionally well prepared.”

Mrs Elliott has also praised her students for achieving the results in a ‘transition year’, when students have had to embrace the changes from modular to linear A-levels.
