A Kentish Town craft fair proved that handicraft is very much a living, rather than a dying, art.
More than 500 people attended the craft and handmade market held at Torriano Infants’ School, Torriano Avenue.
The fair, which was organised by 15 to 20 members of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), featured homemade cards, quilts, jam, chutney, jewellery, handbags and T-shirts. Crafts ranged in price from 50 pence to �110.
PTA member Jo Ouvry, of Torriano Avenue, said: “It was a massive success despite the weather being chilly. It was far more successful than everyone expected it to be.
“It did not feel like a school event. It felt like a wider community event.
“Initially the intention was to get 30 craft traders to come along, but then we got 40. All the demand from craft traders reflects the creative hub that Kentish Town and Tufnell Park is.”
The PTA raised �800 and will use the money to buy a new mosaic sign outside the school.
