Rain stopped Highgate schoolchildren from going down to the woods for a teddy bears’ picnic this week but the pupils, their grandparents and their favourite cuddly toys still enjoyed a feast of homemade treats.
Five and six-year-olds from all-girls Channing Junior School, in The Bank, and their grandparents brought along their favourite teddies to enjoy cakes made by the young pupils at a picnic on Thursday.
The youngsters then performed the classic children’s song The Teddy Bear’s Picnic as they sheltered from the damp inside the school hall.
One lucky schoolgirl won a giant cuddly rabbit in a raffle, with tickets raising £375 for the school’s Capital Challenge – a bid to raise £3million for new facilities.
By the end of the afternoon, the rain stopped just long enough for the pupils to show their grandparents around the school’s grounds.
