Children clocked up impressive distances as they raced around their primary school’s playground to raise money for a new food technology and arts classroom.
More than 400 children at Gospel Oak School in Mansfield Road, Gospel Oak, took part in an annual sponsored fun run over two days yesterday and today.
Providing moral support, headteacher John Hayes ran alongside his Year 4 pupils, completing a 6km run, while most youngsters managed an impressive 1.4km around the playground.
The run is organised every year by the Gospel Oak School Association (GOSA) to help the school raise funds for improvements. This year, the money will help to equip a new food and arts classroom.
Donations are still being totted up, but last year’s event raised more than £5,000. GOSA is confident they will match that amount this year.
Sarah Allen, one of the organisers of the fun run, said: “It really brings the whole school community together.
“The kids love it and parents come and cheer them on.
“It’s a really great atmosphere because everyone takes part.”
