A Camden ‘big assembly’ scheduled to take place this afternoon in response to funding education cuts has been cancelled in the wake of last night’s attack in Manchester.
Parents had been due to descend on Talacre Gardens from 5pm for the protest event, but a spokesman for the Camden NUT has confirmed that the event has been cancelled due to the tragic events at Manchester Arena which has seen 22 people, including children, killed and 59 injured.
There were due to be speeches from teachers and trade unions leaders in the Prince Wales Road park based on the government’s National Funding Formula.
Camden schools are facing cuts of £18.1 million by 2019, which is equivalent to £952 less being spent on each child.
It is hoped that the assembly will be rearranged for another date, which is yet to be confirmed.
Across Haringey on Friday there is still due to be 4pm protests at Alexandra Palace (in front of the South Terrace), Chestnuts Park and Highgate Woods (in the field by the café).
