With the nation’s press rounding on him from all quarters, Ed Miliband could be forgiven for acting strangely of late.

On Sunday, the embattled Labour leader was spotted by a neighbour ushering his wife Justine into the newsagent near his Dartmouth Park home while he stood ominously outside waiting for the morning’s headlines.

The neighbour said: “I watched Ed Miliband sending his wife into the paper shop, probably because he’s in the papers for the wrong reasons and didn’t want his kids to see dad all over the papers.”

Mr Miliband has had little to thank his neighbours for recently.

Last month, several residents living nearby slammed Labour’s mansion tax plans, claiming it would decimate Mr Miliband’s own community.
