Singer Ronnie Carroll met up with his old pal George Weiss to celebrate his 80th birthday this week.

Chalk Farm resident Mr Carroll, who twice represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in the 1960s, reached the milestone on Monday (August 18).

He met up with 73-year-old Mr Weiss – better known as “Rainbow George” – in South End Green before celebrating with friends and family at a party in Maida Vale.

Mr Weiss, who gained a measure of notoriety for founding a string of wacky political parties, said he is hoping to get Mr Carroll into the music studio to record some new tracks in his 80th year.

“Ronnie’s a special person,” he said.
