Haringey Police Boxing Club suffered disappointment in the north-west London division of the senior ABA Senior Championships as their two entrants failed to progress.

Kiev-Del Dyer had been due to compete in the 71kg class at Hayes Working Men’s Club, but the 21-year-old had to drop out of the tournament due to a virus.

That left Haringey’s hopes resting on Kingsley Okolie, who was entered into the 75kg category, but the 26-year-old had to lose weight in the build-up to his bout and he put in a tired performance, being outpointed by Dale Youth’s H Sadiqzai.

“He lost his weight too quickly during the week, which he’s done before,” said Haringey founder and coach Gerry Willmott MBE. “He didn’t have his usual energy and power. It’s disappointing that neither of the boys made it through - particularly when Kiev-Del didn’t even get the chance to fight.”
