A PAIR of distraction burglars have preyed on elderly people in South End Green, stealinng hundreds of pounds in cash.

Two men fooled one pensioner on Constantine Road with the claim they were checking the water mains, before taking her pension and cash she was planning to take to the bank.

The victim, Alice Etherington, 83, said: "I'm still shaking. The problem is that I'm so trusting. I just can't get over it. They stole £100 from my wallet and £40 from my purse.

"But the police weren't worried about the amount. They were worried about them hitting me."

The men also tried their story on a neighbour.

Mary Casey, 75, said: "My husband answered the door. The men said they were from Thames Water and wanted to check the water pressure.

"My son heard the conversation from upstairs and said it didn't sound genuine."

The first suspect is a white male in his 40s, 5ft in tall, with balding ginger hair, of thin build and with a London accent.

The second, also white and in his 40s, is about 5ft 10in tall and of medium build. He hasdark brown collar-length hair.
