TERRIFIED diners dived for cover as a gunman wearing a motorbike helmet opened fire in a busy St John's Wood restaurant on Friday night.

Strictly Come Dancing star Rachel Stevens and BBC reporter Hugh Pym were among the customers who took refuge under the tables when the man began spraying bullets inside the Harry Morgan diner in St John's Wood High Street at around 9pm.

A 31-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 15-year-old boy was hit in the arm after the gunman, who was in pursuit of another man, began firing. Both men were taken to hospital but their injuries were not serious.

The gunman escaped the scene in a black Mercedes.
