The Planning Inspectorate is set to rule on a controversial luxury homes plan that many fear will blight the education of hundreds of children.

Developers proposing to bulldoze the old nurses’ hostel in New End, Hampstead, and replace it with a seven-story block of luxury properties have appealed against Camden Council’s decision to reject the application in November.

Campaigners fear the construction of the project, which features a three-storey basement, would severely affect 800 youngsters at three nearby schools – Heathside, Christ Church and New End.

A date is yet to be set for the Planning Inspectorate to consider the appeal.
