Trade union members marched to Camden Town Hall to protest against poor pay for council workers yesterday.

UNISON’s Camden branch led a demonstration march of around 80 protesters from the Crowndale Centre, in Eversholt Street, Mornington Crescent to the town hall in Judd Street, King’s Cross.

UNISON branch secretary George Binette said: “The government’s sudden claims that real take-home pay is rising flies in the face of reality for many of our members.

“The branch’s modest welfare fund has been exhausted, some members have resorted to payday loan companies and the branch has received reports of craft-workers in Camden’s housing repairs service having to make use of food banks.”

The Camden demonstration was part of a national day of action called by UNISON across England and Wales to boost its 2014 pay campaign.
