A member of Danish royalty presided over the opening of a bazaar at the Danish Church in Regent’s Park on Saturday.
A crowd of more than 1,000 people turned out to greet Queen Anne-Marie at the event at St Katharine’s Church. The annual bazaar, organised by the Danish Women in England organisation, was first held in 1954.
Her Royal Highness’s parents King Frederik and Queen Ingrid of Denmark attended the church’s opening ceremony exactly 60 years ago in 1952.
The bazaar included music from the Funky Friends and the �rhus choir and dance from the Peter Schaufuss Ballet company. There were also Danish delicacies, including open sandwiches and �blekage, a Danish apple pudding.
Elin Scheel Stone, chairwoman of Danish Women in England, said: “It was absolutely fantastic.
“We had the most marvellous weather. The Danish flag was flying high and we had more than a thousand people attend.
“A strawberry stall proved to be a surprise hit. The Danes loved it.”
