Journalist and politician Daniel Finkelstein and philosopher A C Grayling were among more than 100 guests at a prolific Hampstead author’s book launch.

Joseph Connolly, the Ham&High’s food critic, signed dozens of copies of his 12th novel, Boys&Girls, for devoted readers at the event held at Hatchards bookshop in Piccadilly on Thursday evening. It is the author’s 24th book.

Dozens queued to have Mr Connolly sign their copies of his latest novel while enjoying wine and other refreshments. Lord Finkelstein, executive editor of The Times, and Professor Grayling, who founded private undergraduate college New College of the Humanities in 2011, both attended the launch night.

“Everyone seemed to have a good time, which is all you can ask for,” said Mr Connolly, of Hampstead Village. “We sold about 50 or 60 copies, which for a hardback book is quite good.”

Mr Connolly has been shortlisted for columnist of the year at the 2014 Regional Press Awards.
