The High Court is today set to examine whether CS11, the controversial cycle route through Swiss Cottage, can legally be built.

The cycle superhighway from the Finchley Road into the West End was halted in July when Mr Justice Holgate approved Westminster City Council’s bid to review the legality of the plans.

The council said Transport for London (TfL) had not properly modelled the traffic flows for part of the route, including through St John’s Wood.

There was also concern from campaigners that, if the plan goes ahead in its current form, it will increase traffic in residential roads around Hampstead. Meanwhile TfL said the legal case brought by the council was “politically motivated”.

Work on the Swiss Cottage gyratory was set to begin on July 30, but was postponed after the legal challenge was approved.

The day-long hearing at the High Court will begin at 10am.
