Victory for revenge porn victims as reality TV voyeur who filmed sex with Camden model is jailed

Naushad Faruk, 33, had ‘pestered’ the desperate model into the sexual activity by threatening to take away the Chihuahua puppy he had given her as a gift, and used hidden cameras to record it, the court had heard.

Faruk, also known as Johnny Na$h, who had featured in the BBC3 reality show Boom Town as “Ladies Man”, was sentenced to three and a half years in jail for voyerism for filming the beauty without her consent.

The jury rejected his claim that she had consented to the sex video to further her career.

During the trial, the 26-year-old model, who had featured regularly in top men’s magazines, sobbed as she told how Faruk, a PR cameraman who she had met professionally, had become “obsessed” with her and lavished her with gifts, including a pedigree Chihuahua.

Mr Jonathan Loades, prosecuting, said: “He would talk to her about marrying her, that he wanted to sleep with her. He would pester her to have sex with him. She refused.”

The model realised he had become “completely obsessed” with her when he had the image of her face tattooed on his arm.

Giving evidence from behind a screen, she told the court: “I was terrified. Why would you go to have a tattoo done unless you were completely obsessed?”

She said that when she tried to break off the relationship, he told her that the dog was registered in his name and he would take it away unless she had sex with him.

She sobbed as she told the jury: “When he gave the puppy to me, I obviously became her mother...She was my baby. I was horrified to find out she wasn’t in my name and I realised he had a hook on me. I was so in love with her, he knew I couldn’t be away from her.

“This happened quite a few times and it was very traumatic and I got very depressed.”

Mr Loades told the jury that after being “pestered to desperation” she struck a bargain and agreed that he could perform a sex act on her.

The jury was shown a 40-minute video filmed in the summer of 2012 which showed Faruk setting up the camera, the model arriving and sexual activity taking place.

Mr Loades said: “She was unaware of the camera and had she been asked, she would have said ‘no’.”

He described how after the incident Faruk continued to pester her so she decided to cut him out of her life.

It was soon afterwards that Faruk sent her a YouTube link to the footage he had taken without her consent with the message: “No one has seen this yet. What happens next is up to you.”

Faruk was jailed for three and a half years, after being found guilty of one charge of voyerism relating to the model between August 1 and September 30 2012.

He was also convicted of two further voyerism charges for using hidden cameras to record another model and an escort girl without their consent between 2013 and 2014.

Faruk was cleared of two charges of fraud in relation to an alleged “fake” photoshoot he set up for men’s magazine Loaded which he had denied.

He was convicted of two charges of perverting the course of justice for tweeting two of the principal victims’ real and working names, breaching a court order to protect their identities.

Faruk was also put under a restraining order banning him from contacting the victims for 12 years and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Rob Jones, said after the case: “This case shows that if someone threatens to release ‘revenge porn’ into the public domain they will be dealt with robustly, not only by the police but also by the courts as is demonstrated by this sentence.”

“The women involved have been extremely traumatised and felt extreme fear throughout,” he added.

Det Ch Insp Andrew Packer of Camden police said: “The filming of women engaging in sexual acts is extremely disturbing when you consider that they had no idea they were being secretly filmed.”
