A string of muggings in Muswell Hill has left victims “shaken” and neighbours afraid to walk home at night.

Three separate robberies took place in the area on Monday night, and now pensioner Robin Young says the area is becoming a “no-go”.

One victim was robbed of his mobile phone just before 9.30pm, on the Alexandra Park cycle path.

Mr Young described him as “very shaken up”.

Police attended two further incidents in the area that evening, with £35 cash, two Apple phones, an iPod and two bank cards reported stolen.

Three men reportedly approached victims and demanded they hand over cash, wallets and bank cards, while appearing to be in possession of a knife.

Mr Young, 75, said: “The whole thing is a worry.

“Every time you get off the bus you are walking into this dark pathway.

“I’m 75 – I’m not going to be able to fight off an attacker, and nor would I want to if they were brandishing a knife.

“Something has to happen or we will have to treat it as a no-go area.

“If you can’t come to and from where you live without running the gauntlet of a gang who want to rob you, then it is a worry.”

The attack follows a crime spree in Highgate and Muswell Hill earlier this year.

The Ham&High reported that teenagers were being targeted at knife point for their wallets and mobile phones.

Mr Young added the lack of CCTV in the area was a concern.

He said: “I use that path several times a week, as do many other people.

“It’s the only direct route between this area and the main bus route towards the Tube and central London.

“I have lived in this area all of my life and I will have to change my routine to avoid using it at night.

“It is so dangerous-seeming, especially after dark, that I have feared for a long time that this might happen to me, or to others from this area.”

Two men aged 19 and 20 were arrested on suspicion of robbery on Monday and have since been released under investigation, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call cops on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
