The sale price of the former Hampstead Police Station can finally be revealed following weeks of speculation.

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) has disclosed that the 24,000 sq ft site was sold for £14.1million, after a Freedom of Information request from the Ham&High.

The building was bought on June 5 by the Education Funding Agency, part of the Department for Education (DfE). It was purchased for the use of Abacus Belsize Primary School, a free school which opened in September and has been searching for a permanent home.

Both MOPAC and the DfE had refused to reveal the figure despite repeated requests from journalists and interested parties.

The closure of the police base was widely opposed and critics claim it has contributed to an increase in violent crime in Hampstead.
