Police have warned the public to be vigilant when trying to sell cars privately after a Mercedes was stolen.
It was taken from the owner’s home in Finchley Road, Golders Green, in the early hours of Wednesday last week.
It had been advertised for sale on the internet. Officers suspect a prospective buyer switched the key for a fake while supposedly inspecting the inside of the vehicle on Tuesday before two men returned at night to steal the vehicle using the original key.
Det Sgt Tom Kearney, of Barnet CID, advised attaching keys to a distinctive key ring so they are difficult to take off in a hurry.
