A 32-year-old man has been jailed after struggling with a senior police officer on a Tube train at Golders Green station.
Newham chief inspector Roger Mitham was travelling in plain clothes on the Northern Line when he saw Ian Armitt acting drunk and aggressively on the train.
When the train pulled into Golders Green station, he asked Armitt to leave. But he refused, and the two men struggled until two members of the public stepped in to help restrain Armitt, who was hurling racist abuse at passers-by.
Armitt, of Woodhouse Road, North Finchley, was sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment for assault with intent to resist arrest and two counts of racially/religiously aggravated harassment at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court earlier this month.
