A serial burglar has been jailed for breaking into homes and attacking a man with a chair.

Jason Goldberg carried out his crime spree between November 2016 and January this year striking at homes in Archway, Wood Green and Stroud Green, Blackfriars Crown Court heard.

Goldberg first struck on November 13 when he broke into a multi-occupancy address in Ranelagh Road, Wood Green, taking cash, computers, perfume and jewellery.

He struck again at addresses in Crouch Hill, Stroud Green, on December 28 after smashing a kitchen window to gain access to the house before taking money and another computer whilst the owners were away celebrating Christmas.

He carried out his last offence at a house in Hazellville Road, Archway, on January 7.

Goldberg, of no fixed abode, forced his way in and was in the process of taking cash, creit cards and computers when he was discovered by a man at the property.

The occupant challenged Goldberg who then punched and hit his victim with a chair before fleeing from the property, the court heard/

Detectives investigating the case identified the 39-year-old as their prime suspect before arresting him in Finsbury Park on Wednesday, May 3.

During his arrest he was found to be in possession of gloves, a bag of screwdrivers, and a woolly hat.

At an earlier hearing he was charged and pleaded guilty to the two offences in Ranelagh Road and Crouch Hill.

In Monday’s hearing Goldberg pleaded guilty to the Hazelville Road burglary.

He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for the Highgate burglary and 29 months for each of the two remaining offences.

Goldberg’s sentences will run concurrently.

During sentencing at Blackfriars Crown Court the judge also heard that Goldberg already had nine previous convictions for burglary and attempted burglary.

Det Con Debbie Barge of the central north command unit who led the investigation said: “Goldberg was a prolific offender who brought misery and insecurity to those whose homes he targeted.

“He will now spend a significant amount of time behind bars,” she added.
