A man who broke a byelaw by putting up a tent on Hampstead Heath without permission has been ordered to pay nearly £900.
Janusz Slater of Northampton Park, Canonbury, erected a bivouac-style tent, a low-lying tent often used in mountain climbing, on Hampstead Heath without a permit on June 27.
Slater, who did not attend court, was accused of causing or permitting a bivouac-style tent on Hampstead Heath without obtaining a permit, in breach of Heath byelaws.
He was fined £500 and was also told to pay £375 in costs and a £50 victim surcharge at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Thursday October 31.
