A man who appeared in court charged with the attempted murder after a knife attack at Leytonstone Underground station was a former pupil at a Camden school.

Muhaydin Mire, 29, whose family moved to Camden from Somalia, studied in the sixth form at South Camden Community School, now Regent High School, in Chalton Street, from October 2003 to July 2005, a school spokesman confirmed.

The spokesman said: “At Regent High School, our first priority is the safeguarding of all our students, which includes following the Government’s national Prevent Strategy procedures.”

Mire was remanded in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court and will reappear at the Old Bailey on Friday.
