The man, believed to be between 30 and 40, is thought to have been Eastern European. He was of slim build, and had short cropped hair. Police think he may have been homeless.

Police are looking for the public’s help in identifying him. They were called at 7.15am when his body was discovered at the back of a takeaway in Finchley Road.

A post-mortem nearly three weeks later found he had died as a result of a head injury.

Despite the Met’s investigations, they have been unable to find out who he is. They have released pictures showing him walking into a nearby shop hours before he is thought to have died.

CCTV footage also shows him walking down an alley way in the area, from the direction of Rodborough Road towards Hodford Road at 10pm, the night before he was found dead.

Four minutes later, he is shown walking in the opposite direction and appears to be staggering, before sitting down against a wall where he was found the next morning.

Police are appealing for anybody who may have spoken to, or passed the victim that evening, to contact them with any information.

Detective Constable Fred Itiose, from Barnet CID, said: “We are keen to establish not only who the victim is but also the course of events leading to his death on Thursday, 20 September.

“We know a number of people were in the area at the same time and may have spoken to the victim in his final hours.”

Anyone with information should call Barnet CID on 020 8733 4125.
