Kentish Town man jailed for 18 years for murder of Liverpool fan in Camden bar
A Kentish Town man has been jailed for a minimum of 18 years for stabbing a Liverpool football fan to death in a bar in Camden Town.
Paul Beck, 29, of Spring Place, was handed a life sentence at the Old Bailey today (Thursday, November 29) for the murder of 26-year-old Alex Jarmay in February.
Judge Gerald Gordon told Beck he must serve 18 years in prison before he can be considered for parole - prompting clapping and shouts of “yes” from members of Mr Jarmay’s family sat in court.
Yesterday (Wednesday, November 28), Paul Beck pleaded guilty to murdering Mr Jarmay, while his brother Damien Beck, 24, of the same address, pleaded guilty to wounding Alex’s brother Luke Jarmay, 22.
Damien Beck’s plea of not guilty to murder was accepted. He is due to be sentenced on the wounding charge later today (Thursday, November 29).
Mr Jarmay, of Bromborough, Wirral, died after being stabbed at Bar Uno, in Inverness Street, Camden Town, before collapsing outside.
He had travelled to the capital with his brother and friends to watch Liverpool FC play Cardiff City FC in the Carling Cup final, which Liverpool won the next day.

The group of around 12 friends had gone out for a quiet drink on the night of the murder.
Det Chf Insp Matt Bonner, of the homicide and serious crime command, said after the sentencing: “This was an awful unprovoked attack which tragically resulted in Alex losing his life.
“Nobody present in the bar that night could have foreseen what was to happen.
“Alex and Luke were enjoying a night out with a group of friends and witnesses described a good atmosphere without a hint of trouble.
“For reasons only known to him Paul Beck decided to arm himself with a knife and together with his brother, Damien, launch an unprovoked attack on Alex and his brother Luke.
“My thoughts are with Alex’s family and friends and I hope they can now start to come to terms with their loss in the knowledge that the person responsible will spend a long time behind bars.”
