A heroic builder who was stabbed while grappling with a burglar has been commended by a judge.
John Hancock, 46, and colleague Ollie Record, 31, both from Hemel Hempstead, were commended by Judge Nicholas Browne QC and rewarded with £350 each.
They came to the rescue of a grandmother being attacked by burglars in her home in Huntingdon Road, East Finchley, in February, forcing the thugs to flee.
Mr Hancock was stabbed three times with a screwdriver by Patrick O’Leary, 21.
O’Leary, of Harris Road, Watford, was caught from DNA on a cap and shoe which came off in the scuffle. He was jailed for eight years last Monday.
