Pop star George Michael has been released from prison after serving four weeks for driving under the influence of cannabis.

The Highgate singer was handed his freedom after serving half of his eight-week sentence inside Highpoint Prison in Suffolk.

He was jailed after he crashed his Range Rover into Snappy Snaps on Hampstead High Street on July 4 and was found by police officers slumped over the wheel.

The 47-year-old, real name Georgios Panayiotou, admitted driving while unfit through drugs and possessing two marijuana cigarettes when he appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on September 14.

He was moved to Highpoint, a softer Category C prison, from Pentonville last month.
