A Crouch End woman has been jailed for her part in a scam where the computers of a gold bullion trading company where hacked so its deliveries could be intercepted.

Nour Mansouri of Hanley Road, would wait outside an address that was due to have a delivery and dupe the post worker into handing the parcel to her.

The 24-year-old helped steal six packages worth more than £88,000 which were sold on to a jeweller.

Kingston Crown Court heard Adam Penny, from Canary Wharf, hacked into the computers and stole the details of customers who had purchased gold and were waiting for it to be delivered.

The details were passed to Mansouri, Joshua Wilkins, from Harlesden and Daniel William Rabbitte, 25, from Hornchurch, who all intercepted the deliveries.

On one occasion they travelled to Newcastle but they failed to intercept the delivery because the postman knew the victim and refused to hand over the parcel.

Penny also blackmailed the gold bullion company demanding £50,000.

The scam allowed him to live a lavish lifestyle and when he was arrested six iPhones and two MacBooks - one which was found in a toilet cistern - were seized.

They contained evidence of hiss blackmail demands to and instructions for his interceptors.

Yesterday Mansouri was sentenced to 200 hours community service, and ordered to pay £1,000 in costs, Wilkins was jailed for 22 months, and Rabbitte was given a two year suspended jail sentence after all were convicted of conspiracy to steal.

Penny admitted conspiracy to steal and computer misuse with intent and was convicted of conspiracy to steal, unauthorised access to a computer and blackmail.

He was jailed for five years and four months.

Detective Inspector Sanjiv Gohil, of the Cyber Crime Unit, said: “This case highlights the importance of robust cyber security systems for businesses and particularly those with an on-line presence.

“In this case the breach was reported to the police and we were able to investigate and bring Penny to justice, without further compromise to the company and their customers.”
