A YOUNG man has been stabbed in Harrow Road – just yards from the scene of a previous murder.

The violent attack happened near to the Kentucky Fried Chicken takeaway at around 11.30pm last Saturday.

Electrician Daniel Omari Smith, 22, was shot dead at the same scene in May.

The 20-year-old victim of Saturday’s assault was taken to hospital where he is described as being in a stable condition.

The incident has led to calls from Westminster North Labour MP Karen Buck for both the council and police to take further action.

She said: “I’m increasingly alarmed by the scale of youth disorder in this area. It’s both unacceptable for residents and a horrifying experience for young people caught up in the fringes of the violence.

“I want the council to act urgently in reviewing the cutbacks in youth services provision and helping the police to act through the council to prevent this situation deteriorating.”

Westminster Council’s families and adult services boss Cllr Daniel Astaire said: “This was no doubt a frightening experience for local people who would have witnessed it and we are grateful for the police’s swift response.

“We believe in early and targeted intervention to stop violence gaining any hold on our estates or across the city.

“While the police do not act through the council, as indicated in the statement by the local MP, we most certainly do have a strong working partnership and there are a number of ongoing projects in Westminster where the council works with young people to stop them getting involved in crime and make the local community safer.

“The police have made some excellent inroads targeting the most serious offenders and providing a significant presence in the areas most affected.
