Police were called to the Crouch End Hill Food and Wine shop.

Witnesses described blood on the floor following the attack at 5pm.

The university-educated shopkeeper, who also works teaching English as a foreign language, suffered stab injuries and was driven to a central London hospital by his wife last night.

His family has owned the Crouch End business for two years.

Police arrived at the corner shop and taped off the area.

Today at the shop the family owners asked not to be named and were too scared and upset to talk.

Officers from Haringey are investigating.

There has been no arrest at this stage.
