Two men were jailed after being caught red-handed committing a smash-and-grab robbery.
Kane Franzese, 24, of Hendon, and Michael Edgar, 25, of Finchley, were both sentenced to three years in jail for handling stolen goods, driving-related offences, and attempted robbery of Wagonmark pawnbrokers in North End Road, Golders Green.
Barnet police officers in an unmarked car watched as two men mounted the pavement on a stolen motorbike and smashed the front door of the pawnbrokers on February 18. The officers ran over and arrested both men after a violent struggle that saw one officer elbowed in the face.
Sgt Pete Dearden said: “This sentence reflects the seriousness of the offence – the officers involved recognised the severity of what was unfolding, reacting immediately without fear.”
