A teenager has been found guilty of raping a woman at knife-point after breaking in to her Camden Town home.

The 17-year-old – who cannot be named due to his age – was part of a masked gang which burst into a 25-year-old woman’s flat as she watched television in the early hours of November 16 last year.

The court heard how the Nepalese hotel worker, who also cannot be named for legal reasons, had been a virgin before the 17-year-old, armed with a large kitchen knife, raped her while threatening to murder her.

The gang, who covered their faces with black scarves, stole £200 in cash and a £400 digital camera.

At first the victim was too ashamed to report the sexual assault because of her cultural beliefs which ban sex before marriage, said prosecutor Jason Sugarman.

The Kentish Town teenager was found guilty of rape and aggravated burglary when he appeared at Blackfriars Crown Court on Monday.

He will be sentenced on June 21. A 17-year-old co-defendant, who is facing the same charges, will be retried on May 28 after the jury was unable to reach a verdict.
