Neighbourhood police in Highgate have issued a warning about suspicious activity in the area.

The Highgate Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) said it has received reports of two young Eastern European women in their early 20s, with blonde and brown hair, knocking on the door of a resident living in the N19 postcode area to ask to use the house phone.

They then asked for a lift to Tottenham, according to reports.

The police say the incident may have been genuine, but that it also could have been a ploy for the women to identify the car’s owner with a view to stealing it at a later date.

The SNT has also received reports that men may be posing as builders to knock on doors in the N6 postcode area.

They have apparently asked residents if they can leave a skip outside their homes, offering to do some work for the homeowners.

But according to reports, the skips never appeared outside the properties.

While police again said this could be innocent, they warned in an email last week that this ploy could be a technique for thieves to identify homes to burgle at a later date.

They are asking any residents who have experienced similar or identical scenarios to contact them on 101.
