Plans for a towering mobile phone mast in the heart of a conservation area have been rejected by Barnet Council.
More than 100 people signed a petition urging the council to reject an application from telecommunications company Telefónica to erect a 15m mast with antennas, satellite dishes and equipment cabinets outside Lyttleton Court, in Lyttleton Road, Hampstead Garden Suburb.
Telefónica insisted the mast was required in order to provide new 4G mobile phone coverage and increase 2G and 3G capacity in the area for O2 and Vodafone customers.
The council rejected the application on the grounds it would be “unduly obtrusive in the street scene”.
